An icon in motorsport
It happened in 1966 at the world's most famous race in northwestern France: the light blue Ford GT 40 was to cross the finish line first, beating arch-rival Ferrari. Shortly after the #1 and #2 Fords crossed the finish line and the race was waved off, the confusion was great. Four drivers thought they had won the race. However, due to the higher distance covered, the GT 40 with start number 2 won, although the car with the number 1 was in the lead. It was the tightest finish of all time of this race. The Ford GT 40 was redesigned especially for the 1966 season - the 4.7 liter engine was replaced by a larger, more powerful 7.0 liter engine to win the race.
